The question asked in the title “Can you make money on the Internet?” evokes many reactions, and I’ve heard many answers to it, from an enthusiastic “Yes!”, to a bitter “No, it’s all scam.”
I decided to follow up with people who said “Yes, you can make money on the Internet.” I should be more than grateful to them, because what they said opened also my eyes and changed the way I look at Internet Marketing.
So what do you need to start making money on the internet? Think for a while and try to answer that question yourself. My answer is: nothing. That’s it, you don’t need anything in the material sense, except for a computer and Internet connection. No money, no experience, no website, no product. Why? Because websites and products just wait for you, and you’ll be gaining both experience and money since the moment you start working your way in the Internet Marketing.
The most important thing, however, you absolutely must have is a proper MINDSET. The one you might have now may not be very supporting, and you may have to change it. There are five elements of a successful mindset you have to develop, and I discus them below.
1. Be realistic. Rome wasn’t built in one day, and no business was created successful from the very beginning. People who share success stories today have experienced bitter failures in the past. Don’t expect that your new business will help you fire your boss, buy a villa, a fancy car and go on a 6 months-long trip around the world. Expect big things, but be aware that they consist of small things, set your goals, but don’t overwhelm yourself with them. Rather than “I’m going ot earn $5,000 in my first week,” try to concentrate on “I’m going to earn my first $1 in my first month”. Baby steps is the best method to do it.
2. Be focused. Don’t jump from program to program, from method to method, from opportunity to opportunity. Stick to one thing first. I am a great advocate of affiliate marketing, and I’ll always say that this is the best way to start. So once you choose the program and the way to promote it – do it, but not for a week or a month. Give it at leat three months which you’ll also devote to learning, and trying new things, but without dropping what you are already doing. Hold tight to one program, and find the best ways to promote it.
3. Be systematic. If your promotion method requires things to be done periodically, or on a daily basis, do them. Never slack saying “I’ll get to it later.” This will kill your business. If there are things to be done – do them first thing in the morning. Today, tomorrow, the day after, two weeks after, every day.
4. Learn. Nobody knows everything at the beginning. That’s why we have to learn. In case of affiliate marketing, you’ll find many masters to learn from, like for example Ewen Chia who shares his knowledge with everybody who wants to learn. Join Internet Marketing forums, participate in them, ask questions and answer those you can. Read. There are many printed and electronic books on Internet Marketing and affiliate marketing in particular. Start learning and never stop.
5. Set your goals. You must have a goal to be successful. Set your goals and verify if what you do brings you closer to them. If yes, do it again and better, if not – drop it and look for another way to achieve your goals. Think big and expect big things, and they will come, guaranteed! Use visualization and affirmations to strengthen the picture of your goal in your mind. Answer the question “Why do I want to engage in Internet business?” Once you find the answer, the “how” will be much easier to find.
This is the mindset you have to build. Never get discouraged when things go differently than you intended. Learn from each such situation, and with time you’ll not only make a living online but you’ll be able to share your knowledge with people who come after you.
